LENS NEUROFEEDBACK SERVICES

Safe, effective, and efficient.  Helping clients self-regulate their brainwaves faster.

So, you are curious about LENS…

A little backstory:

I love to be able to get to the root of the issues.  In some cases, I found that therapy had limitations of how deep it could get.  There seemed to be other forces at work in the body and brain.  I needed another way into the system.  Something that would be a great partner to the therapies I was already using.

Enter LENS Neurofeedback.  I think of it as another doorway into the system.  If EMDR therapy is going in through the front door and Ego State Therapy is going in the side door, then LENS is going in through the back door.  They all work together to loosen the stuck patterns.  Adding LENS makes doing therapy easier!

What is LENS Neurofeedback?

LENS stands for Low Energy Neurofeedback System.  LENS is a type of biofeedback that feeds back very low radio frequency signals to the brain (signal strength is less than 1/1000th of a cell phone’s power).  It is non-invasive, drug-free, painless and requires no effort.

What does LENS help with?

LENS helps to improve the functioning of your brain.  It helps to get the brain out of stuck patterns.  The effect is like rebooting a computer or defragging a hard drive.

It helps to do three things very well:

  1. Reset your brain
  2. Calm down your nervous system
  3. Stabilize your moods

LENS can help with:

  • Calming racing thoughts
  • Lifting depression
  • Reducing anxiety
  • Lifting brain fog
  • Increasing self-confidence
  • Improving sleep
  • Increasing energy
  • Decreasing reactivity, hypersensitivity, and explosiveness
  • Increasing clarity, attention, and concentration
  • Decreasing fatigue and brain-generated pain

How does LENS work?

LENS causes a disruption in the dysfunctional brainwave patterns and allows your brain to reorganize itself and function the way it knows how to function but hasn’t been able to because of all of the interference.

Trauma, anxiety and dysfunctional thinking are associated with stuck patterns.  The brain gets trapped in loops that keep you stuck in fight, flight or freeze.

When the brain is in stuck patterns, it’s like when your body is physically locked up and you’re not able to move well.  LENS helps the brain become more flexible which restores functioning.

Think of the brain full of roads and highways – all the neurons are connected.  Some of the roads (neural pathways) have been blocked for many different reasons (examples include head injuries, trauma, emotion dysregulation).  LENS unblocks the roads which allows your brain to take the faster and more efficient pathway which translates into better functioning.

What are the benefits of LENS and EMDR combined?

  • Helps the system move more fluidly
  • Helps the stuck trauma move
  • Helps the nervous system regulate itself
  • Helps the system move towards a more adaptive, less alone state
  • Helps to quiet the nervous system
  • Contributes to reconsolidation of traumatic material in a non-traumatic manner

LENS and EMDR are wonderful partners.  They help each other be more effective.  They are a powerful combination.

What if I want LENS without therapy?

I do offer LENS as a stand-alone service.  You do not have to be in therapy or in therapy with me to benefit from LENS.  If you are in therapy with someone else, you can also benefit from LENS.

How much does it cost?

Initial session.              $149

Single session              $100

Packages of multiple sessions available

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is different so there isn’t a set number of treatments.  Here are some parameters that may help you in planning your treatment.  If your symptoms came on suddenly (ex: had a head injury and problems started right after that), plan on 20 treatments or less.  If your symptoms have been long term and more complex (ex: chronic depression), plan on 20+ treatments.  Those with complex developmental trauma may need years of LENS treatment in combination with other modalities to fully benefit.

How frequent should sessions be?

This depends on the sensitivity of the client, availability, and financial situation. Most clients schedule once a week, but those who want faster results and can handle the stimulation can go faster. If your schedule or finances won’t allow that frequency of training, you can still benefit.

Is LENS covered by insurance?

Very few insurance companies offer coverage for biofeedback, however each insurance carrier and plan are different.  Please contact your insurance company directly to find out.  The code I use for LENS is 90901.
